About Dermatology

The Clinics started back in 2003 when historical Hunts PCT commissioned dermatology services to be set up in the Community. Progressive changes in NHS funding have created the need for routine dermatology problems to be seen by GP’s with an extended role in dermatology.

These began at Buckden Surgery and have now expanded to involve Little Paxton, Warboys and Hinchingbrooke.

We are a team consisting of GP’s with extended roles (GPWER) in dermatology and specialist dermatology nurses. We also provide a vasectomy service and have added a Nurse lead Lymphoedema clinic to our community provision list.

Minor surgery procedures are performed at our Buckden site, which include ellipse excisions, shave excisions, punch biopsies, curettage and cautery as well as cryotherapy (treatment with liquid nitrogen).

Conditions treated in our Dermatology Clinics are varied. We have consultant supervision once a month on a Saturday morning where all clinicians converge for a large joint clinic to learn and share ideas on patients.

We hope to encourage local GP’s to be able to learn and have their own clinics in the future with us perpetuating this model of care which enhances the patients care closer to home.

We data capture our clinical information on a well known medical information system called ‘SYSTMOne‘.
